Why does this matter for med spas?#
Patients research aesthetic treatments carefully before they book, and more of that research now happens in AI tools. BrightLocal's 2026 survey found 45% of US consumers used AI tools like ChatGPT to find local businesses in the past year, and healthcare searches show Google AI Overviews about 88% of the time (BrightEdge, early 2026). When AI names three practices, the rest are not in the conversation.
How does ChatGPT choose which med spas to recommend?#
ChatGPT's answers draw on sources it trusts and on live web results, much of which comes through Bing. For a med spa question, that typically means your own treatment pages, review platforms such as Google reviews, Yelp, and RealSelf, health directories, and local guides or news that mention practices by name. If those sources describe your practice clearly and consistently, you are easier to recommend.
Seven steps to make your practice easy to recommend#
1. Build one clear page per core treatment#
Give each main treatment its own page that answers what patients ask: who it suits, how it works, downtime, typical cost range, and who performs it. Put the answer to the page's main question in the first sentence. Avoid outcome promises; describe the treatment accurately.
2. Show who your providers are#
Add bio pages for your injectors and medical director with credentials and experience. For health topics, Google and AI give extra weight to clear expertise.
3. Make your details identical everywhere#
Use exactly the same practice name, address, phone, and description on Google Business Profile, Bing Places, Apple Business Connect, Yelp, Healthgrades, RealSelf, and any manufacturer provider-finder listings. Small differences can make AI treat you as separate businesses.
4. Don't skip Bing#
Claim and complete Bing Places and verify your site in Bing Webmaster Tools. ChatGPT's search features lean heavily on Bing, and many practices have never touched it.
5. Collect recent, specific reviews#
Ask every happy patient for a review soon after their appointment, and encourage them to mention the treatment and provider. Recency matters: BrightLocal found 74% of consumers look for reviews written in the last three months, and 47% won't use a business with fewer than 20 reviews.
6. Make sure AI can read your website#
Many AI crawlers read only the HTML your server sends and do not run JavaScript. Check that your treatment content appears in your page source, that pages load quickly on a phone, and that structured data (such as MedicalBusiness and FAQ markup) is present.
7. Earn local mentions#
A short, data-led story, such as a survey of local treatment prices or a seasonal skincare guide, can earn mentions in local media and blogs. Those mentions are exactly the kind of third-party confirmation AI looks for.
How do you know if it's working?#
Write down 10 questions your patients ask, such as "best med spa for lip filler in [your city]" or "where to get Botox near [neighborhood]". Ask them in ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and Google every month, record who is named, and track your share over time. Expect quick wins from listings and reviews within a few months, and steadier AI visibility over 6 to 18 months.
